catching up: Spinning Wheel Antiques

My dear friends Sara & Bob decided to open a little antique shop in Glendale’s Historic District. Spinning Wheel Antiques is the realization of a long-time dream for them. They had a few booths in various antique “malls” but those venues were hard hit by the economic downturn so closed their doors.

20150509_100606Bob & Sara looked around town for a place to open their own shop, and found this adorable 1942 bungalow available in Catlin Court.

I have had the joy of being able to help out now & then. I love the way Sara merchandises their collection of vintage finds. opening (10)

My favorites are the glass displays in the dining room.11143314_678927365566808_99171551425070010_n

and this Edwardian mourning suit always catches me off guard: “How can I help you, ma’am?”20150509_100138

So, come see them anytime you are in Glendale. Well, not anytime, because they’re only open Saturdays until Sara retires from teaching school…10360605_10206521569506769_2150798339843090186_n

Santa "Peakies"

Well now, I can show a couple, 'cause they were delivered today.

My good friend Sarah takes my oldest to school every morning. She teaches Kindergarten & has a snowman fetish collects snowmen.  When I saw some prim-y winter designs coming from Stephanie @ HeartStrings Embroidery I knew I had to do something for Sarah with them. First, I thought I would do a pillow with

but then I saw

and knew I had to use all three!

So, I found her a hoodie & went to work.  I modified the "sampler" with a heart so she can wear it through Valentine's Day, at least...

She loves it & wore it to work today.

Santa was also busy in the kitchen, whipping up teacher gifts:

(And yes, those are 7-inch cinnamon rolls...)

♫♪ Happy Birthday, Sara! ♪♫

My good friend turned 61 this week. It's so hard to know what to make for that someone who has everything!  So I bought her a candle & a kitchen towel.

I have this cute primitive design from HeartStrings Embroidery, but I was too cheap to buy a big enough candle the candle jar was too small for the complete candle wrap. I edited just the pumpkins for the wrap & embroidered the entire design to appliqué on the towel.

It seemed incomplete without the wording, so I stitched that to the back of the towel.  Now when the front gets dirty, she can flip it to the back!
